Risel

Risel is....I originally sketched this with the objective of getting your typical katana wielding high school kind of character.
Though I didn't intend to take it far, said sketch made me realize that ever since 2006 (Far before I even considered to start drawing lol) I had always wanted to make a story with that overused concept.

So, with my resolve complete, I decided to actually think of a background story for her!

Risel was a well intended but introverted girl,one who cherished life and others over everything else, yet ironically, one who unbeknownst to everyone close to her, was slowly dying off as the result of a seemingly rare terminal illness. Through certain events and after meeting a certain individual, she learns that the cause of her condition is not biological, but magical, with her own Mana source being the reason why her cells slowly die off. Hope briefly shines upon her as she learns that by by hunting down certain non-human beings known as Primordials and extracting their Mana to purify her own, she can temporarily alleviate her condition, and perhaps with time, even be fully healed from it.

Risel's desperate wish to live, blinds her from the not so evident fate which has been cast upon her...
Soon enough, she realizes that there is no clearly defined Light and Dark among the primordial kin, making her consider who the real monster is, between them and her.
The situation quickly takes a turn for worse as she realizes she is becoming more and more dependent on the extracted Mana in order to survive, and how she's slowly taking a liking for bloodshed, becoming increasingly brutal in her own ways. Leaving the illness behind, her new fear is now her eventual end,
that of her life being reduced to nothing but being a deranged Primordial Slayer.

The sum of these events rapidly escalates, and her previously quiet yet caring attitude, quickly becomes a bitter sentiment against the world, and life itself, making her feel betrayed for the love she had for it in the first place.

Risel wants a way out of such lifestyle, but has accepted the idea that soon enough, she will have to leave behind her old world. Despite this cruel reality, she still prefers a life like this, than not living at all.
She will endure a life full of pain, for all she has done so far would have been for nothing if she were to give up.
